The UK is the fashion capital of the world. Famous faces from all over the world gush about British women and their effortless sophistication and style. Perhaps that’s because British women really do live by the mantra that “Every day is like a catwalk”.
The UK has a whole host of amazing fashion-forward events where you can really put your best foot forward – and we’re not talking London Fashion Week.
Events such as The Cheltenham Horse Racing Festival, Ascot, and The Grand National are the perfect excuse to get glammed up and try out some sophisticated fashion choices. But winning the Best Dressed accolade at Ladies Day is about much more than a thigh-skimming frock.
Here, are five top tips for a sophisticated style that will never go out of fashion:
Keep it classy in a midi
If you’re looking to ooze glamour and sophistication – especially at these horse racing events – you need to keep it covered in a midi length dress.
Knee-length frocks are a huge hit in the fashion world now and will keep you looking prim, proper, and stylish. Depending on the weather and the event, a maxi dress is also a great way to keep your style sophisticated.
Heels are a girls’ best friend
Every woman knows that a great pair of heels can completely transform your mood.
When you’re going for a classy style, opt for a classic black or nude court shoe with a modest heel. Nude heels will elongate your legs giving the illusion that you’re taller, and heels will make your legs appear slimmer.
Wedge heels are easier to walk in, especially if you’re attending one of the UK’s biggest horse racing events. You’ll need to be able to walk on the grass, so don’t wear shoes you don’t mind getting a little muddy!
Less is certainly more
Accessories can make an outfit. Necklaces, earrings, cocktail rings and a handbag all polish off a look. However, when you’re going for the classy look; less is definitely more. Or instance, if you’re wearing a statement necklace, only wear simple stud earrings.
You run the risk of overdoing it if you over accessories. Your dress should do all the talking, with everything else complimenting the look in a simple and subtle manner.
Keep your make-up minimal
Similarly, you should keep your make-up look minimal.
You will be wearing it all day, so you will need something long-wearing and low maintenance. You should also remember the ‘lips or eyes’ rule – either opt for a bold lip or bold eye shadow – never both. This will keep you looking sophisticated and not overdone.
Use a tinted moisturizer or light foundation as a base and add a blusher or bronzer for color. Then complete your favorite make-up look, remembering to keep things classy and classic. If in doubt, a red lip or Smokey eye is perfect.
Don’t forget your headwear
When you attend Ladies Day or any of these great British events, no outfit is complete without a hat.
Find the perfect color, shape, and style to compliment your outfit and away you go. Depending on the event you attend, you may have to wear a hat as fascinators are not always allowed. Check the guidelines before you go, and top your look off in style.
